Toyota wants to sell 100000 of upcoming new, larger hybrid model

Details have started to emerge surrounding the new hybrid, with the most recent speculation indicating the car will utilize solar panels developed by Kyocera to aid in its overall fuel efficiency. As previously reported, Toyota vice president Masatami Takimoto indicated the all-new car will be bigger than the Prius and will also be sold under the Lexus brand name.

The yet unnamed hybrid can be expected to employ a revised version of the automaker's current nickel metal hydride synergy drive powertrain. Mated to the unit is thought to be either a 2.0- or 2.5-liter gasoline combustion engine. Not to be outdone by GM's 2010 Chevrolet Volt plug-in, Toyota has also recently increased its research and development of plug-in hybrids and lithium-ion technologies -- two new elements finding their way throughout the company's future lineup by as early as 2010.
